Additional information Luella, nee Fisher, Letz  to Polly Murray dated 20 Feb 1976 from Cindy O'Hare.:

Pauline, nee Hoffer, Fisher left Russia at the age of 12. She was a very good student and reader and was ready to enter higher school to be a teacher.  her father Michael Hoffer worked as an overseer in the boat ship that her grandfather Znor [Knorr], a merchant owned.  Her grandfather own all the businesses in town such as the flour mill, grocery shop, etc. etc. etc...  Pauline's grandfather originally migr. from Holland and lived near the German border operating flour mill. The elder Knorr left and settled in Russia where he bought land and built a town. He hired Russian peasants to work the fields and take care of the stock. The family left Russia in 1906 because of the 1905 uprising when the peasant boys ransacked the town. Since they had banked in Odessa it had remained save so they transferred their money to Berlin where they collected it and sailed for Boston.  Her father Michael Hoffer, bought a strip of land in Texas but looking over the land he concluded he had been cheated and migr. to Colorado, near Denver. He bought a flour mill. However,  the Minniniites were dominate in the area and he felt uncomfortable so a he sold his mill and bought land in North Dakota. He had thought of buying land in Canada where some of his brother had migrated... By this time he was 75 years old and was starting to feel his age and died a few years later.  His second wife Magdaleena Znor [Knorr] managed the farm until her son reached 18 and was married.

Jacob Fisher's father was John Fisher,  who  was a teacher in the Knorr  village and taught German in the morning and Russian at noon.  He could read Latin and Greek. His family had migrated to Russia from Prussia. In 1901 the Fishers migr. to Jamestown, ND, USA then near Medina, ND.
