Russia .  In 1898 they homsteaded six miles northeast of Streeter, ND, USA.  p.  Streeter  Jubilee Bk:  "Life was a hard battle for all pioneers during those first few years and theirs varied little from that of the others.  Mrs. Schatz recollectrs taking a load of garden produce to Gackle, selling $15.00 worth to the railraod building crew.  Mrs. Schatz sold hay to them for their horses and mules.  This was belfre the line extended to Streeter.

They moved to Streeter in 1917.  Mr. Schaftz passed away on November 13, 1951.  His widow still resides here.

His brothers, John and Adam, also homesteaded in the vicnity.  They moved to town in 1915.  Adam died in 1942.  His wife and daughter Pauline make their home here."

Sent to me and is said to be from the Selby m, S. D. Jubilee Book:

MR. AND MRS. PHILIP PFAFF

Mr. and Mrs. Philip Pfaff were both born in South Russia and were married there in 1881. In 1885 they came to America settling at Lesterville, South Dakota. In October of 1889 they came to Walworth county, filing on the SW 1/4 of Section 26, formerly a part of the Christman farm, and the NE 1/4 of Section 27, land now owned by Edward Himrich. In the spring of 1904 they purchased a total of 480 acres of land in Campbell county, 7 miles southwest of Mound City where the family lived until the fall of 1911 when they sold out and went to Idaho. Selling there in 1917, they returned to Selby where they purchased the house now owned by Ed Delzer. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1931 and, at that time, they had 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mrs. Pfaff passed away in January, 1940, and Mr. Pfaff passed away last year, 1949.

Like the young people of so many of the pioneer families, the Pfaff children and grandchildren are widely scattered, residing in many states, the only one remaining in this section being Mrs. John J. Schanzenbach of Mobridge. Doubtless, however, they all look back with pride to the lives and works of their parents, wrought so well in the new land of America and for the pioneer home in Dakota.
